Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have launched a public dashboard that tracks how popular AI chatbots answer questions about the 2026 United States midterm elections. The LLM Election Observatory, led by professors Adam Berinsky, Chara Podimata and Charles Stewart III, runs a fixed set of election questions through major chatbots every few days, varying the simulated voter's location, party affiliation and identity. Pope Leo XIV has become the first pontiff to vote in a United States general election after submitting a mail-in ballot in his native Chicago ahead of the 3 November midterm elections, the Vatican confirmed on Friday. Leo, formerly Robert Prevost, has voted as a US citizen whenever he was eligible to do so, the Vatican's press office said, and he requested the ballot on 3 October, ten days before he had surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his right lung.
