The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has passed 10,000 confirmed cases, with 4,887 people dead, according to government figures released on Tuesday. The outbreak, which began in May, is now the country's deadliest and the fastest-growing on record, with cases also reported in Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda. Health officials warn there is no approved vaccine or treatment for the rare Bundibugyo strain behind this epidemic, and the fatality rate is close to 50 per cent.
