Australia's Diamonds keep netball world No. 1 ranking with win over New Zealand

Key points

  • Australia's Diamonds have held on to their world No.
  • 1 netball ranking after beating New Zealand 68-58 in Melbourne, avoiding a Constellation Cup clean sweep.
  • New Zealand had already wrapped up the series 3-0 and would have leapfrogged Australia to the top of the world rankings for the first time with a win, but the Diamonds produced a strong performance in the final test.

Australia's Diamonds have held on to their world No. 1 netball ranking after beating New Zealand 68-58 in Melbourne, avoiding a Constellation Cup clean sweep. New Zealand had already wrapped up the series 3-0 and would have leapfrogged Australia to the top of the world rankings for the first time with a win, but the Diamonds produced a strong performance in the final test. Goal attack Georgie Horjus shot 26 from 28 attempts and added 20 assists as Australia kept control of the match. The result gives the Diamonds a timely boost ahead of next August's Netball World Cup in Sydney, their final international outing before the tournament, while New Zealand still take the series 3-1.
