Martha Stewart has apologised after her Halloween costume drew heavy criticism online. The 85-year-old shared a photo on October 31 dressed as a person experiencing homelessness, holding a sign reading "I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!!", as part of a post promoting her QVC candles. She deleted the photo after the backlash. In a first statement she said the costume was meant to raise awareness of homelessness and that she was distressed it had offended people. She then issued a second apology on Instagram on November 1, saying her earlier response did not go far enough and that wearing the costume was insensitive and not funny.
